Cyborg Lady 666 by SebastianvonBuchwald Cyborg Lady 666 by SebastianvonBuchwald
This is definitely the best (and probably the most time consuming) piece I've done yet.

Originally, I wanted to make a girl with a mecha arm (it had a completely different pose) but I was trying to do it from my head and, after spending a while doing that, I realized that it wasn't coming together like I wanted. I decided to do something completely different and work from reference instead and I used this (NSFW!) picture for that: [link] . But I wasn't happy with just a simple nude study so, towards the end, I added the sci-fi suit and the cables and whatnot.

I'm proud of myself with this one even though, because I added all the extra stuff at the end, the pose make no sense whatsoever. I mean, why would she hold a piece of fabric to cover her crotch is she's not naked? Oh well, I still like it.

Very different to see it in that painting-like style, but alluring. She has an interesting look on her face, wondering what it means.

I think that in my version she looks a bit angrier than in the original pic. But maybe it's just me. :)

Maybe she just realized that she would miss something down there.

I love it. You could also write off the cloth as a remnant of the girl feeling shame?

That's a great interpretation.

Thanks. I like how the glare came out as well, it really sells that ominous look. :)

I read that red patch over her crotch as more of a... vaginal portal to hell than a cloth, since it looks like her hand is sinking into it. I actually think that could work as a concept if it was executed with those intentions, haha. Still, this looks cool otherwise, shading and anatomy all look good. :)

Great stuff here, and you nailed it on using references as I often suffer the same frustrations trying to get a pose down without one. After messing around with adding clothing(or not, or in this case mecha stuff), I've just recently started having mild success moving an arm position or drawing in a completely different head or face. I bet you'll do the same soon as well.
Oh, yeah, she's holding the cloth at her privaty area because she believes she is completely human and organic, yeah that's it!

Yeah, I usually have stronger results when I use reference. I mean, I hope at some point to be able to work directly from my head as so many amazing artists do but sometimes it just doesn't happen without a good base to work off. And yeah, like you said, I'm hoping that working like this will let me soak up some of those lighting and anatomy kinks that give me so much trouble so that I can have more freedom with these pieces eventually. But anyway, thanks for looking. :)

I never use refrence, but that's why none of my stuff is good lol.

Reference is a godsend, dude. Whenever you hit a wall, just pick a photograph that you like and try to copy from it. You'll be surprised with the results. :)
